Well done to all our sailors at the weekend.

There’s been a lot going on...

Pata Negra in ISORA

Our offshore sailors, recently seen on the Pwllheli coastal races, headed over to Ireland to race across the Irish Sea from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead. Wind direction gave the ISORA fleet a reach home, producing some impressively fast times. Andrew and Sam Hall’s Pata Negra won the race with an astonishing crossing time of just under five and a half hours. Paul & Sam Kitteringham’s Finally came in 4th in class 1, Nigel Ingram’s Darling XX 1st in class 2 and Paul Sutton's Lightning 5th in class 0. Well done everyone. Hope you managed to enjoy the Guinness while over in Ireland.

Finally in ISORA

While all this was going on, some of our fleet were down south racing inshore. With Mojito arriving back in the UK in Southampton after their Caribbean racing, it made perfect sense to make the most of their time in the Solent by taking in some racing at the Royal Southern Yacht Club’s Summer Series. Racing in IRC class 1 alongside local boat Impetuous, the light winds and strong Solent tides proved tricky for Mojito on the first day of the series. Day 2 presented different tricky conditions in the form of strong gusty North-easterlies which resulted in several boats retiring from the regatta. Mojito finished 6th Overall after a rusty start while a well tuned Impetuous picked up 2nd place overall. Well done everyone.

Not everyone was away though.

Geoff Dufton-Kelly’s Crackajack took the opportunity to head out in the bay and log a time on the Tremadog Triangle. Starting at the outfall buoy off Gimblet Rock, the triangle takes in the Firmhelm mark 2 followed by marks 8 and 10 before returning to the start/finish line at the Gimblet Rock. The course can also be completed in reverse, which is exactly what Geoff and team decided to do after analysing wind direction. Well done Geoff, you are currently leading the IRC leaderboard.

Crackajack

Any of our members can log a time, both cruisers and racers. Just head out around the marks and record your time. Send your elapsed time into the club along with boat name, handicap and direction sailed and we’ll add you to the results table for a chance to win a prize. You’ll need either a YTC (free) handicap or an IRC racing handicap. If you need help obtaining a handicap just get in touch and we’ll help. Results for both IRC and YTC are published at the Christmas party in December to keep you guessing, so we’ll keep those secret for now.

Next racing is in two weeks time where we join the SCYC May bank holiday regatta. Please try and support this event as it is open to PSC members, reinstating the camaraderie between the two clubs and boosting opportunities for racing in the bay.
