Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club hosted the 9th race in the ISORA (Irish Sea Offshore Association) 2012 series as part of the September series.

The forecast for Saturday was for a light south westerly wind so the course was set for a beat to St Tudwal’s Islands (port) then to the Causeway cardinal buoy (to port) and a spinnaker run home.

Race officer, Robin Evans, saw the nine boats off on time. The wind shifts on the first beat was tricky in 7 knots of wind but Sgrech lead the way to St Tudwals Islands by taking a middle course. John Collins in Jetstream took an inshore route and Jeepster taking a more southerly route. The three J109’s however converged and cross tacked in St Tudwal’s Sound.

The 4 knots of wind on the one sided beat to Causeway saw Jeepster take advantage of her larger Genoa and she had a good lead on the fleet at the mark.

The run home was again tricky and Sgrech and Jetstream heated up. Sgrech lead the way home with a good lead but lost out to Jetstream who again took an inshore route to cross the line in second place but winning on corrected time. Jeepster was third over the line and on corrected.

Sgrech took first place in the ISORA fleet, Polished Manx (1st Class 2 and in the Silver fleet) second and Pipe Dreamer third.

Polished Manx now climbs to third place in the Silver Fleet.

There was more wind for the second day of the September Series The two round the cans races was won by Jeepster followed by Midnight Mojito with only 6 seconds between the two in the last race.

Jeepster is the winner of the September Series and the full results are available here.

A good turnout is expected for the last ISORA race in the 2012 series is from Pwllheli To DunL on Saturday 15th September.

The Pwllheli Challenge start on 22nd September with the Autumn Ball in the evening.
