The forecast for Saturday was for a steady 12 to 15 knots from the west with clear skies and sunshine.

The fleet of 9 set off from the Pwllheli start line with a beat into strong winds which gusted up to 30 knots and it was grey.

The fleet was lead by Wennol II but remained bunched in the flatter seas up to St Tudwal's Islands. Cindy Lou, Satisfaction and Gwawr sailed faster by going lower and looked to be in a promising position before St Tudwals but then lost out as the lift that they expected did not materialise causing them to tack into the sound. The rest of the fleet made the sound in one.

The waves at Cilan headland affected the smaller boats in the fleet and Lovely Jubbbly took advantage of the flatter seas by staying inshore at Porth Ceiriad.

The long hard beat from Cilan to Gwylan was tough but made bearable because of the anticipated run home. First Boat to Gwylan was Wennol II.

The seas around Gwylan Islands made the rounding exciting and the sight of the waves in Bardsey Sound was awesome. Then the fun began just as the sun came out and the promised blue skies appeared.

We were not able to take in the full glory of the scenery because of the exciting downwind action.

Quango reported a 18+ knot surge and Just enough recorded a record 16.8 knots on the speedo.

Lovly Jubbly took line honours and beat Just enough by 25 seconds on corrected time.

Jacki on Pagan said 'one of the best races ever' and the gang on Sunrunner (winners of the King Constantine cup last year) said that it was a most exhilarating race.

All competitors were thanked for competing and race winner Eleri thanked Robin for his race management duties.

The ISORA race winner was Just enough with Wennol II in second place and Gwawr third. The next ISORA is the night race in Ireland on 23rd July. Details here.
