B‍ore Da - Good Morning

Welcome to this July Edition of the CHPSC e-newsletter.

Firstly, thank you for all the messages of support for our race to the Azores on Jac Y Do, we completed the outbound leg to Ponta Delgado, San Miguel, in 8 days and 4 hours and the return to Falmouth in 7 days 16 hours averaging just over 6 1/2 kts over the 2500 nautical Miles. With 440 miles added for the return trip from Pwllheli to Falmouth.  it was great to get back for a rest!

The Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta has just closed over in Dublin Bay, with many club members competing in a variety of classes. Congratulations to all our members sailing in both inshore and offshore classes, in very lively condition’s, with some excellent results. Special mention to team Mojito finishing 3rd overall in a 20 boat plus offshore fleet, and for securing a 1st and 2nd place with Jackknife in the Royal Dee Yacht Club series, which includes the VDLR and Lyver race, and to Gelert for a strong placing in IRC0

Further information about the RDYC series here

Back home it was great to welcome Mike White (Bellone) back from his Atlantic cruise, visiting Lanzarote, Cabadelo Brazil, St Lucia and Dingle. A full report will be in this year’s yearbook.

Congratulations to Thomas Tudor, Iago Tudor. Sam Hall and George Bird-Jones representing CHPSC at the Royal Yacht Squadron Commodore's invitational challenge, led by team manager George. We have been invited back next years and the RYS were very complimentary towards our team, with a special award given to Iago as the youngest sailor at the event. My thanks also extend to the support team of Andrew Hall (bosun) and Stephen Tudor (Liaison)

Congratulations to David Lean and crew for a great result at both the J cup and round the Island race down on the Hamble, and we look forward to Jackpot racing in the Autumn series.

I know many members are currently on, or about to embark on cruises, may you have fair winds and following seas, and I also extend my best wishes to Finally and Pata Negra competing in the Fastnet race later this month.

Two social events coming up (see posters below)

The Regata Pwllheli Regatta - Saturday July 22nd with pursuit race, parade of boats, BBQ and live music on the deck all afternoon and early evening - a great opportunity to meet up both on and off the water.

For those wishing to enter the Pursuit Race – please email racing@pwllhelisailingclub.co.uk as soon as possible, so we can calculate your start time, and for those planning to take part in the parade of boats, we will start this from the PSC2 racing mark (near the West End) at 12:30 - there will be a prize for the best dressed boat.

As last year, we hope to get the Pwllheli RNLI Shannon Lifeboat to lead the parade. Listen out on channel 17.

On October 7th we have a great Autumn supper planned with a cool musician playing chilled music from 3pm and a Roast Dinner supper after, followed by a talk by Golden Globe sailor and club member Ian Herbert-Jones. This is a ticketed event, see the poster below for further information.

I wish everyone a great summer, an opportunity to visit the Eisteddfod held from August 5th in Boduan shouldn't be missed, and of course boating and socialising here at our home in Plas Heli

Our programme of site improvements continues and inside the building we have decorated many rooms including the entrance, internal balcony, main hall and the toilets.

You will notice that there has been more work undertaken outside and the CCTV cameras are now installed in the main compound. We hope to fit the cameras on the pole on Cei Heli shortly.

Also fitted to these poles is an additional WiFi connection points. This will help share the 900 MB/sec connectivity.

Work has started on the two shower cabins in Caban Heli, and we hope these will be ready for our pontoon customers for August.

Other projects in the pipeline include a lifting arm barrier at the entrance to Cei Heli (quayside) to facilitate access to the pontoons especially during busy events.

‍New Site Plan

We now have a new site plan to help visitors navigate around the centre.

‍Pontoons and Crane

The crane has been removed from site for a few weeks for warranty related works.

We regret any inconvenience caused and hope to resume normal service very soon.

The pontoon gate has had a new component fitted and is working again. Pontoon customers are provided with their own boat specific codes. Have you received yours?

The pontoons are full, and we are looking at ways of increasing our capacity so that we can help meet the growing demand.

New Crane in Use

Our ground works on Cei Heli are now completed and we are now working on the provision of added CCTV and WiFi coverage on the pontoons.

Our utility costs have escalated in a most alarming way, and we look at all members and guests to be careful with their use of electricity and water. Please refer to the Fair Use Policy.

‍Evernts

Our next really big event is the Topper Nationals starting on 5th August.  This is a five day event with 150 competitors!

If you want to help by being a volunteer, ashore or afloat, for a day or for the whole event, please email CHPSC Commodore above or Plas Heli below.

We are also looking for a volunteer Committee boat for one of the race courses, can you help?

CHIPAC - YOUTH SAILING

Your CHIPAC organisers and instructors are already hard at work running courses for our young members.

Congratulations to Mike Thorpe who has recently gained his Keelboat Instructor and Racing coach qualifications and is keen to implement all his new skills by introducing an exciting new racing plan for the year ahead.

We are also keen to further enhance our members sailing opportunities by introducing sailing in larger dinghies, including racing, with a view to entering future national and world championships!
