Calendar June

Welcome to this July Edition of the CHPSC e-newsletter.

II hope everyone has enjoyed some quality time on the water, making use of the limited weather windows we seem to have experienced this year! I know many have embarked on cruises to Ireland and Scotland, and we look forward to hearing all about these.

We had an excellent club Regatta at the end of June shared with the RNLI with a fun race, and a welcome back to the Shannon ALB, with a BBQ and live music after in Plas Heli.

Lots of racing in ISORA and Cork week, and many Dinghy events taking place now, with the ILCA fleet training this week following their Welsh National champs, and we start building up to the two big events in August - the Optimist nationals and GP14 World Championships, with CHIPAC boats entered in this event.

Congratulations to our young team placing 4th in the Royal Yacht Squadron Commodores invitational challenge - it was great being in Cowes supporting the team, lead by team manager George Bird-Jones and skipper Chris Jones.

A report can be found on the  club website.

Ruth James - On Saturday 27th July, Bohdan and Ruth’s family invite all that new Ruth for a a celebration of her life, starting at 3pm

Volunteers

We are looking to find a volunteer to look after our membership process, it’s a role that can be carried out remotely, and full training will be given If interested, please email link below:

We also invite anyone who would like to help, in any capacity with the two big events in August, in any role or capacity. Please email the commodore address as above.

Crane - the crane will be in daily use now launching and recovery event ribs-  can we attempt to keep this area clear to allow us space to get the trailers in. The old Versa Dock should be moved this week, so will free up some parking.

Finally I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of long standing member Patricia Williams last week, and have sent our condolences to former Commodore Gerallt Williams. Further details can be found on the web site.

I wish everyone  safe and successful boating, in all its forms, and look forward to some better weather in August, and a chance to catch up in Plas Heli and enjoy hearing about everybody’s adventures.

PLAS HELI NEWS

Plas Heli Cyf – The Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre, a volunteer not for profit distribution community enterprise company, with charitable aims and where all surpluses are reinvested back into the facility for everyone's benefit.

Plas Heli
Plas Heli

2024 has been exceptional - so far - a great Supernaova and Welsh National Laser Champiuonships all completed with high praise and compliments.

The next event is the IOCA (Optimist) Nationals and then GP14 World Championship. The Welsh and Junior Championships, and an ILCA Qualifier Event in September 2024.

We are continuing with our program of improvements to compliment those already undertaken.

The landscaping works on the Plas Heli grounds are ongoing and the improved appearance is complimented by many. You will have noticed that we have completed the work of reprofiling the dunes, this has enhanced the views from the Café Bar.

The glass in the front door was damaged and we are now working on a plan to replace the two sliding doors. We will keep you informed on the progress made.

The CCTV covering the pontoons is now operational and the new fence at the bridge head is completed.

The VersaDock has now been reconfigured and we hope to remove the spare portions shortly.

‍We need assistance to place the perimeter flags ready for the IOCA event which starts on 3rd August.

We have more landscaping projects in the pipeline including work on Cei Heli and a new security barrier access to Cei Heli for our pontoon customers.

Plas Heli Pontoon customers now have the use of shower cabin in Caban Heli with additional upgrade works completed.

We continue to work closely with RYA CW to provide facilities for training camps, storage, and activities, and we respect the strategic importance of the facilities for events, training and boating in Wales and in the UK.

Community engagement works continues and included our work with clubs and associations, assistance with facilities for a disability boat, fundraising events, classrooms for community groups, meetings, teaching and our work with children in-need.

We are reliant on volunteers and are of course, grateful for all assistance provided by our stakeholder groups and clubs and in particular the Commodore and Flag Officers of Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club.

There is more about Plas Heli in the updated Plas Heli - Prospectus
