The 2015 event was promoted in the yachting press, including the IRC year book, and received the attention of the Irish yachting press. The Championship was also promoted with attractive event flyers and by newsletters and flyers. We worked closely with ISORA (Irish Sea Offshore Racing Association) who also helped in the promotion.
ISORA who also arranged a delivery race to Pwllheli on the weekend before the event and Liverpool Yacht Club also promoted the event by staging the round Anglesey Race the previous weekend.
We were pleased with the resulting entries this from all corners of the Irish Sea catchment area with boats from Cardiff Bay, Cork, Dublin Bay, Liverpool, Holyhead, Conwy and our neighbouring club at Abersoch.
Competitors in the Spinlock IRC Welsh National Championship 2015were able to take advantage of the new academy facility which only opened in July 2015. They were able to have the free use of the new visitor pontoon berths before and during the event.
Racing was managed by the Royal Dee Yacht Club team led by Michael Butterfield IRO, supported by Plas Heli and CHPSC staff and volunteers.
The racing followed a windward leeward format and the feedback from competitors was complimentary on the style and execution of the racing.
There was a crew dinner on Friday evening at the venue where 150 crew were catered for in our new main hall and this incorporated a presentation to each Class race winner with a slate coasted prize and disco.
Racing on Saturday was followed by a race winner award and competitors enjoyed the male voice choir arranged for the Fireball World Championship also being hosted by Plas Heli.
The final day racing on Sunday was followed by a prize giving ceremony and the two Class winners were presented with an inscribed locally produced slate plaque.
For the 2015 event all competing boats were issued with a TracTrac tracking device which enabled shore crew and supporters to follow the racing and for competitors to analyse their performance after racing.
The interactive race results were published electronically soon after racing was concluded each day and displayed on screens in Plas Heli and paper printouts circulated.
The racing was again this year professionally photographed by Andy Green and Alan Dop and superb images are available on the web site here.
Thank you to all competitors for supporting the 2015 event and we hope to see you all again next year.
