English (UK) Rear Commodore, Bob Lowe was presented with the RYA Award by HRH the Princess Royal, the RYA President, last Friday in London at its Annual General Meeting.
The award is for 'distinguished services to yachting'.
The citation reads ....Bob has worked tirelessly on behalf of sailing in Wales for over twenty years. He devotes his time freely to helping others as a club volunteer. Bob is currently the Rear Commodore and Chairman of events at Pwllheli Sailing Club and is one of the main driving forces behind the new Academy building that will open in 2014. He has been at the heart of the development working with Gwynedd Council and Welsh Government officials to secure the multi-million pound investment.
As well as being an active volunteer Bob has been a committee and board member at the Welsh Yachting Association since 1994. He has held a range of positions, Vice-Chairman, Chairman and Honorary Treasurer and was Chairman when the WYA went through the process of modernisation which involved considerable time and commitment. Bob's involvement in the WYA continues and he was elected as a director at the Region's AGM in November 2011.
