Jac Y Do - Completed Stage one of the AZAB on Sunday 11th June and will start on the second part of the Race on 20th June.
The next leg of the race takes the fleet from Azores back to Falmouth.
After 8 days and 4 hrs at sea we completed the first leg of the azab (1229 miles)
We had all types of weather from no wind to 28kts and big seas
We used three Spinnakers, a code zero and two jibs at different times during the race
We took a fairly conservative approach to this leg, but actually sailed very fast. Had we not suffered a day of (un-forecast) light winds we would have finished 16 hours earlier. This affected all three SF3200's who took a similar routing which would lead to more reaching in the last two days, which suits our type of boat, and this part was really great with 8kts plus averaged for extensive period's
The final 30 miles was tricky with the wind shadow of San Miguel island, but after being parked for a couple of hours, we got a good breeze to beat to the finish at Delgado.
A few beers and bed - now sorting the boat out
Will post a few videos!
Cheers
Mark and Phil
