CHIPAC sailors take part in the 2011 IOCA(UK) BRITISH

WORLD, EUROPEAN, DEVELOPMENT & FLANDERS TEAM SELECTION TRIALS

OK think about this 90 invited to race, 70 accepted the invitation. The top 5 go to the Optimist World Championships 2011 at Napier New Zealand , the next 7 go to Portugal, another 8 get some more training at Dominican Republic and another 7 go and compete in Belgium.

This is what is at stake at Pwllheli this weekend. 2 local CHIPAC sailors Iago Davies (Bethesda) and Gethin Llewelyn Owen (Abererch) are 2 of the 90 who have been invited and while sailing on home territory it is hoped that both will be flying the flag for CHIPAC. After Gethin gained a 5th in the Silver fleet at Weymouth and Iago Davies putting in an excellent result in his first Topper event recently both have progressed solidly over winter by gaining excellent coaching from Welsh Yachting Associations coaches Ollie Green and Josh Metcalfe.

If both make the cut to go to New Zealand (results finalized on Tuesday Afternoon) please buy their parents a drink as the parental ‘contribution’ is only £1800 and the total cost per sailor is £4600 with the RYA making up the difference.

Good luck to both sailors
