Another two weeks have passed since the last Friday newsletter, with the club and it members in full swing enjoying sailing and boating both locally and further afield
Whilst not always the pavement cracking summer conditions we would love, there have been some great weather windows allowing many to embark on cruises to the South Coast, Scilly Islands, Southern Ireland as part of a full Ireland circumnavigation, the Isle of Man and Scotland. We send our best wishes to all those on cruises, and look forward to the reports to share with members, perhaps in a year book to publish at the time of our Christmas Party and prize-giving.
The racing section continues to be very busy, and after the recent 704 NM Round Ireland race featuring “Jackknife” “Finally”and “Jezebel” (see the club news report here) Pwllheli boats dominated the recent long and challenging ISORA race from Dun Laoghaire to the Fastnet Rock and back to Cobh (Cork) last weekend, a new 260 mile race that is a nod to the original Kingstown – Queenstown race run many years ago. 12 boats started the race with the option to sail a shorter race finish directly at Cobh
Congratulation’s to “Mojito” winning the race overall and Class 1, “Jackknife” for a fine 3rd overall and 2nd in class 0 and “Jac Y Do” 4th overall, and a class 2 and DH win in a race with many retirements and some electing to sail the shorter course direct to Cork
With the 200 mile leg from Dun Laoghaire to the Fastnet being to windward, all crews were very grateful to turn the corner at the iconic Fastnet Rock.
The race concluded at Cobh, at the line used in the very first K2Q race which was a further 3 miles up the harbour from the entrance!

Cork week starts next week, with the delayed celebrations of the Royal Cork Yacht Clubs 300 year anniversary with the big event the Cork 1720 European Nationals as part of the regatta, best of luck to 1720’s “Luvly Jubbly”, “Mayhem” and “Saints and Sinners” and to “Mojito” and Imposter” racing in the IRC classes.

Our youth section CHIPAC continued their training sessions, and with the wind out of limits last Friday, the young sailors had a rigging and safety drills session in the Plas Heli Hall with the instructor’s in this great facility. We thank all the instructors and parents for their help running the youth section.
Last weekend Plas Heli and CHPSC hosted the Super Nova nationals, who had a great time both on and off the water, with our own Henry Wright as the principal race officer, and Stephen and Richard Tudor managing the land based activity.
We thank all our volunteers in many roles for their outstanding contribution to the safe running of the event, in many roles – we simply couldn’t do this without you.

Sean and Kellie Devlin continue to provide delicious catering offerings, including the ever popular Sunday Carvery, and introducing BBQ at weekends when the weather allows.
The next club social event is a BBQ with live music on August 5th as part of the IRC Welsh Nationals – all welcome with tickets available on the night.
