pwllhelilogoloresflagDear members and friends,

And before we know it…. summer came, the sun shone, and seemingly is now disappearing fast, and it’s September. The months are flying by! I do hope you have all had an excellent summer, and enjoyed lots of good sailing and boating trips, near and far. As always, we’d love to hear the stories of your trips and adventures, and encourage you to submit pictures, which always brighten up any newsletter or website.

I was most saddened to hear the news of the passing of Peter Driver, one of our clubs’ regular members and racing skippers. Peter was a lovely, warm, friend to many and will be missed sorely by the club. The flags were lowered to half mast, and the Flag Officers and Club members send our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

The last few months in Pwllheli have been a hive of activity, with events from the IRC’s, to ILCA’s and Techno windsurfers (to name but a few), and the RYA Welsh Youth and Junior championships, just around the corner. Our volunteers have worked hard at making every event a great success, and it’s been a pleasure to see our home so busy and buzzing!! Both the Sailing Club and Plas Heli are immensely grateful for the support of our volunteers and neither the club nor Plas Heli would be as successful without your assistance. Thank you!

In racing news, a big well done to four our club’s racing fleet, Mojito, Pata Negra, Jezebel and Finally, that all entered and completed this year’s Rolex Fastnet Race. This year marked the 100th year since the first edition of the Fastnet and saw a record fleet in reasonably favourable conditions. A huge well done to all.

The ISORA series has been well supported this year by Welsh boats, and with several Welsh successes. Good luck to all entering the ISORA James Eadie Pwllheli to Dun Laoghaire race next weekend!

The Autumn Series is also now upon us and is always a popular series. You don’t have to be a regular racer to enter, and information and assistance from our race team is available, on obtaining a YTC rating (the national rating system for cruiser racers), so all boats are welcome to join the fun. Saturday and Sunday afternoons after racing are always a popular and busy time in the bar (again all welcome) and your committee are discussing dates for an evening supper once the nights draw in a little. Also on the schedule will be the annual quiz night in November, in conjunction with the RNLI, and as a date for your diaries, the Annual Prizegiving and Christmas dinner will be held on the 6th December.

We regularly post news, updates, and snippets to the website, so please keep an eye out there, and happy to post there, on request, anything anyone feels may be of interest to members. Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your requests, and if possible, accompanied by pictures. And as always, I will endeavour to keep you all updated with news by newsletter to your inboxes.

May the fair winds and sunshine continue for a while longer.

Warmest regards – Hwyl

Lyndsay
