Bore Da - Good Morning
Welcome to this April Edition of the CHPSC e-newsletter.
Welcome to this month's newsletter, which I write just drawing to the end of a busy April, which started with the AGM on Easter Saturday morning, held at Plas Heli. The Commodores report is on the website, and the club is in a healthy position moving forward.
Following the meeting, and throughout the Easter weekend, the club held a “tuning weekend” for racing and cruising boats to get back into sailing mode, with time on the water and the chance to shake off any cobwebs.
It was great seeing the two new J70’s out in the bay, both with CHIPAC sailors onboard, and now starting to practice and develop a team for the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron “Commodores Challenge” to be held in July at Cowes . Our club is one of only 14 to be invited.

The club and ISORA coastal series, part of the spring series commenced on April 15th, with three races planned. The April 29th race completes a “mini-series” with Mojito leading the series so far, and a prize giving and party planned in Plas Heli after racing.
Further details can be obtained from our Rear Commodore Vicky Cox by email at racing@pwllhelisailingclub.co.uk
After a great deal of work by both the club and Plas Heli, the pillar crane has finally been installed on the quay side. This facility was always part of the plan and the foundations were built into the quayside when the academy was developed.
This enables sports boats to once again grow, after the marina ceased its sport boat package. We also see this as an area for CHIPAC sailors to develop into as a progression from dinghy’s.
Further information about the crane and sports boat packages can be found on the Plas Heli website.

Plas Heli continues its infrastructure improvements, and we ask members and visitors to take care in the compound whilst some of this work is carried out, particularly where a new camping area is being developed, and in the area of the steps to the top balcony.
Club members are able to take advantage of discounted rates on camping and trailer storage, please look on the Plas Heli website in the facilities section.
The IRC Welsh National Championships takes place between May 12th and 14th, and in addition to the IRC classes we have a cruiser class, with a relaxed but competitive race schedule aimed at cruising boats with the racing planned around the club marks.
Entries welcomed at www.ircwelshchamps.com

A party is planned on Saturday 13th with live music and all are welcome.
Sean and Kellie continued to provide a great bar and dining service in Plas Heli and we hope to announce our social and party plans soon, including the Regata Pwllheli Regatta party on July 22nd with hog roast and a live band.
Members took part in a rib refresher, PB2 and first aid course in April, and we hope to run more adhoc courses this year, which are subsided for event volunteers - to place an expression of interest in any of the courses, or to volunteer at events, please email the flag officers Link below.
Finally, we were all very relieved to learn of the successful rescue of GGR entrant and Pwllheli sailor Ian Herbert Jones in the South Atlantic following his dismasting, and he is now safely on dry land in Cape Town.
We look forward to welcoming Ian home, and to hear the reports of his incredible adventure.
I look forward to seeing more people back in Pwllheli as the season develops, and wish everyone a successful cruising, racing and boating season, and of course a chance to discuss all these activities over a drink in Plas Heli, enjoying the great views of Tremadog bay and Eryri beyond.

There are also a few extra landscaping projects for this year.
We hope to have all planned projects completed before the first 2023 event.
Our utility costs have escalated in a most alarming way and we look at all members and guests to be careful with their use of electricity and water. Please refer to the Fair Use Policy.
If you want to help by being a volunteer email CHPSC Commodore above or Plas Heli below.

Congratulations to Mike Thorpe who has recently gained his Keelboat Instructor and Racing coach qualifications and is keen to implement all his new skills by introducing an exciting new racing plan for the year ahead.
