IMG 0365My first sailing expererience started over 50 years ago on a 16 foot sailing cruiser that my Father built for family holidays , this was moored in Pwllheli harbour behind Morfa’r Garreg

Soon my parents moved on to a 22 foot long keel ‘Itchen Ferry’ sailing cruiser ‘ Urticaria’ , some may remember her grey topsides and the legs she wore to keep he upright at low water .

Many memories of that boat moored in the inner harbour and the friends I met whose  parents also moored their boats there , it must have been the place for those boating on a budget .IMG 0367

I learnt to sail in the inner harbour sailing round and round the island (gone now) timing myself to see if I was getting better ( times don’t change I’m still doing it now with the Commodores Challenge and Tremadog Triangle) Going out to see will always bring back memories of motoring through the gap in the gantries from the old tidal gates and picking our way through the boats moored all over the outer harbour on swinging moorings

In 1992 I bought my first boat a Seamaster 29 ‘Fairway’ on which I did most of my sailing with my Father , taking us to south Wales , Anglesey and Ireland usually returning with a hangover and a howling gale behind us .

My current boat is a Hunter Channel 31 ‘Theia’ which after the death of my Father I sailed single handed for years , a challenge which I really enjoy although it’s a bit of a workout racing on your own.

My teenage daughter has also been bitten by the sailing bug and loves to go sailing and racing it was her who encouraged me to join in with the Pwllheli sailing club racing challenges  One of my proudest moments was to crew for her as she helmed ‘Theia' round the cans in a club race.

Next years challenge is to sail ‘Theia’ to Cardiff to visit Maddie in University

"Back to Boating" - Task Force Update

Vice Commodore Gerallt Williams, our Task Force leader reported as follows:

"Track and Trace" is an essential element of our back to boating protocol, and one that is mandated for the leisure sector by Welsh Government. We have two track and trace email addresses, one for the Bar as highlighted below (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and one for the compound and pontoons (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) - it only takes a few seconds with a smart phone to record your visit, this helps us comply with COVID regulations, and you are assured we  operate strict data protection protocols.

* If you are, or intend being a user of the Plas Heli pontoons, please read and adhere to the pontoon protocols which are available here *

* If you are, or intend being a user of the Plas Heli compound for dinghy sailing, please read and adhere to the Plas Heli compound protocol - available here *
